Who did he ring? Even if your under 18, you shouldn't have to give them your phone number.

"quick...jerry's at the door what do we...oh, you've got your skinnys on...never mind." - dress for the worst my friend.

anyway my advice would be to try and speak to someone personally, ive had similar problems with unpaid gas and water bills (ahh student poverty!) and ive dodged court by either phoning up the company directly, or putting on a nice suit and going to the offices to charm receptionists into doing me a favour....seriously, one girl gave me her number! at the end of the day if your smart, polite and explain the situation, and people can see that, then even if you go to court it wont be a big deal, but dont argue with big companies for the sake of it, they WILL rape you.

they phoned some agency to check that my name matches the address

and yeah,
i have a few excuses to use though;
the week before, somebody had got trapped underneath a train, so the line was down,
and the register was closed so i couldn't get a refund
and the machines are always dodgy, and swallow money and things, and theres always register open at southend

Go on their website fella it should have all the info you need about it, should be on the paper they gave you .

I got fined 20 once for my train ticket not QUITE getting me to my home town, how ever I emailed them and said " the ticket sales advisor said it would get me to Harlow"

Just be clever silly!

You're hungry.

You need a sandwich.

Shop is closed but you see the chilled section through the window.

Do you break in, steal the sandwich, run away with the intention of paying later?

No. You go without the sandwich or find another way to get your nutrition.

You shouldn't have got on the train.

Think how it looked from their point of view and how many chavvy kids probably try the same thing (non legitimatly) day in, day out. "Sorry mate the ticket machine was playing up so I was going to get a ticket here" or whatever.

But its not worth dwelling on the past - you can write to them and explain your situation and if they don't take it you may as well cough up the £65.

I suspect court will cost a lot more and you will have an epic time trying to proove your case.

The system > you.

i had got off the train, went over to the right side and taken out the money to pay for the fare already.
what else was i supposed to do? turn around and go home?
but, last weekend, i paid for a train ticket, and wasn't able to get the train, so, technically, i would pretty much have paid them back.
the workers at c2c said themselves that i should complain, and shouldn't even get a fine
